Good morning!
“Plus ςa change, plus c’est la même chose”
So said Jean Baptiste Alphonse Karr in 1849
The more it changes, the more it stays the same.
This sales training and motivation blog concentrates on the fact that sometimes it seems as if we are just repeating the mistakes of yesteryear, again and again, never learning or changing our behaviour. Considering that my business is all about changing behaviour and learning from mistakes, it would appear that I should address this. Consider the following:
I think you would agree that we are living in the face of increasingly difficult social and economic circumstances.
To have the skills to be able to live a happy life by reflecting on our inner qualities, attitudes and behaviours is something for us to strive for. We should go about our lives calmly without constantly picking fights with people over matters of no great importance.
We should be more modest, have a degree of self-control be generous and be fundamentally honest. Work hard and you will benefit from your efforts without having to be greedy and looking to make a fast buck.
Success comes from honest hard work and effort. Your mind will be clear and free from anxiety and you’ll be happier as a result. Aiming for only material wealth will not bring you inner peace, in fact the more you try the less you’ll succeed.
Don’t go to bed fearing tomorrow, you don’t know what tomorrow will bring. Don’t say ‘I am without fault’ because if you think you can’t improve you are sliding backwards, don’t be over-confident.
Be strong in your heart, be firm in your mind, focus on these ideas and you’ll be where you want to be in your life.
How much do you agree with this?
I think it’s extremely relevant and a timely reminder of how we could choose to behave.
Well written, I think you’d agree. I would like to be able to tell you that you can follow the author on twitter, subscribe to his facebook page, follow him on linkedIn, visit his website, attend a highly motivational seminar, read his bestselling self-help book, watch his weekly video blog and speak to him on the phone for advice.
I would like to do all of that. Unfortunately, I can’t.
This isn’t because I’m withholding anything from you. It’s because the author is dead. He’s been dead a while. In fact he died over 3000 years ago in Ancient Egypt. The text in bold above has come from the Instruction Of Amenemope, written around 1300BCE.
Interesting isn’t it?
Much of my forthcoming book, Cellular Attitude, covers similar points. I was amazed to find words that are so similar speaking to me across the gulf of time like this.
I’m writing this on a state of the art iMac, with an iPad, iPhone and MacBook Pro all alongside me. I’ve had a couple of Nespresso’s and I’m living in a house with central heating, superfast internet, all the mod con’s and he wrote it on a piece of papyrus 3000 years ago. It’s really made me stop and think about humanity. 3000 years ago, advice was there to help people be more civilised, treat each other in a more positive manner and to live a more productive and successful life. Didn’t really work did it?
Perhaps he was a visionary ahead of his time? I’d like to hope so, because if he wasn’t, if humanity can never learn and change its behaviour, we really are all doomed.
Fortunately, I have seen plenty of evidence that shows people can change.
However, ONLY if they really WANT to.
That’s the key point to this. I think that’s what stopped Amenemope. He was flying in the face of public opinion with advice to turn away from attaining material wealth without attaining spiritual peace.
I believe that you can have your cake and eat it. You don’t have to sacrifice material wealth to have inner peace, you can have both.
You just need to know how to do it!
